BETHEL – The 28th annual Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show was held on May 26 at the Dr. Moses Mason House, sponsored by the Bethel Historical Society. The show and contest highlighted a historical theme, “Old Days on the Androscoggin,” for students in SAD 44 grades one through six. There was competition for cash awards in three divisions.

In order to be eligible, each of the nearly 100 entries related to the theme. Three prizes, including cash, a certificate of commendation and ribbon, were given in each of the three divisions. Judges included Don Bennett, June Abbott and Danna Nickerson. Winners were:

Division 1, grades one and two: first, Regan Kauf, grade two, Crescent Park; second, Kaitlyn Brown, grade two, Woodstock Elementary; third, Mykiah Bennett, grade one, Woodstock Elementary.

Division II, grades three and four: first, Kate Merrill, grade 4, Andover Elementary; second, Andrew Mills, grade four, Crescent Park; third, Jillian Delallo, grade three, Crescent Park.

Division III grades five and six: first, Hunter Gray, grade five, Andover Elementary, second, Jenny Wakefield, grade five, Woodstock Elementary, third, Echo Pelc, grade five, Andover Elementary.

The contest is among several programs offered to students in the region by the society and honors the memory of Faye Sanborn Taylor (1908-1972), a local artist, who was especially interested in encouraging the creative talents of young people. A charter member of the society in 1966, she also served as treasurer of the organization until her death in 1972.
