Seniors to meet

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Hasty Community Center. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. There will be the usual raffle table. Tickets will be on sale for the Italian sandwich luncheon on Wednesday, June 20. Bingo will be played after a bag lunch.

The club met May 16 with 59 members attending. A memorial service was held for members who had died during the past year, with Lucy Cowles in charge, assisted by Chaplain Patricia Donohue, Betty Hebert, Shirley Hawkins and Caroline Chapman. Ralph Lashua, with guitar accompaniment, played and sung “If We Never Meet Again.”

Birthdays for May were acknowledged and members sang “The Happy Birthday” song. Attendance prize winners were Gerry Brushwein and Eleanor Jones; pot of gold, Doris Michael, Thelma Scanlon and Lucille Rybeck.

Procession

LEWISTON – The third annual Corpus Christi eucharistic procession is planned for Sunday, June 10. The procession will set out from Holy Family Church, Sabattus Street, following a time of adoration after the 11 a.m. Mass.

Beginning at 12:50 p.m., the 1.4-mile procession will go to the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. There will be a blessing of the cities from the steps of the basilica.

The celebration will conclude with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and a reception in the parish center. There will be a prayer service, adoration and benediction beginning at 1 p.m. at the basilica for all those who are not able to process or if it should rain.

All are invited to join the procession.

Vacation school

LEWISTON – United Baptist Church of 250 Main St will hold vacation Bible school for kindergarten to grade six from 9 a.m. to noon June 25 to 29. It is free. The theme will be “Sonforce Kids Special Agents by Gospel Light.” There will be games, Bible lessons, snacks and crafts. For more information, call 782-1981.

Elks Flag Day

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Elks Lodge will hold its annual Flag Day services on Sunday, June 10, at the lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will last approximately 45 minutes. The service is open to the public, and all are welcome. Following the service, a light lunch will be served. For more information, contact the Lewiston Elks Lodge at 784-4801.

VFW meetings

LISBON – VFW Post 9459 will hold an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the post home, Route 196. Items for discussion will be future meals and events.

VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the post home. All members are invited and new members are welcome. Agenda items will include upcoming suppers and future events.

Yard sale

GREENE – The Universalist Church of Greene will hold its annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23, at the church on Route 202. The proceeds will allow the church to remain open year-round and to build on a Sunday school room.

In addition, proceeds from the sale of food and lemonade at the Sunday school table will go to the Heifer Fund, which is the charity that they support. Those who have items to donate should call Pat or George at 946-5052 or Heidi at 225-5181 to arrange for drop-off or pick-up time.

Blood drive

WINTHROP – There will be a community blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall, Lake Street. The drive is open to all donors. A form of identification is required.

Tables for rent

SABATTUS – The Jacques Cartier Club, Wales Road, will hold a yard sale, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 20, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21. Tables are available for rent. For more information, call Sally at 754-8839.
