Society cleanup
DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Historical Society will hold its annual spring cleanup at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7. Members will freshen up the museum and meeting room by dusting, vacuuming and washing the windows. Members and friends of the society are asked to bring cleaning supplies and their vacuums.
Sprinklers topic
NEWRY – Developers, contractors, builders, plumbers, firefighters, homeowners and anyone interested in learning about residential sprinklers is invited to a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Newry Town Office.
Franz Haase of KWENCH Systems Greenflow Integrated Residential Sprinklers will speak followed by a question-and-answer period. Eric Ellis from the State Fire Marshal’s Office will also attend.
Lodge supper
RUMFORD – A chicken barbecue supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Blazing Star Lodge, Route 232, Rumford Corner. The menu will include chicken, mashed potato, stuffing, coleslaw, green beans, homemade bread, pie, tea, coffee or punch. Takeout will be available. Cost is adults, $7; under 12, $3. Community meal
DIXFIELD – A community spaghetti supper will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Dirigo High School. The menu will include spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, desserts and drinks. Proceeds will help fund the Dirigo boys varsity basketball team trip to Florida next December. Cost is adults, $6; senior citizens/students, $4.
Auto show
CANTON – The Canton Volunteer Fire Department will present the third annual auto show on Saturday, June 9, on Route 140. Registration will be from 8 a.m to noon, rain or shine. The awards presentation will be at 1 p.m. Registration fee is $5 for car, driver and passenger.
The fire department will also present the sixth annual Summer Fest from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 9, including a craft fair/flea market at the Canton Municipal Building. Call Wayne for more information or to reserve a table at 597-3043.
The Whitney Masonic Lodge 167 will host a chicken barbecue at noon in front of the fire station. The cost will be $5 a meal.
Camperships
RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition will offer camperships for local children ages 5 to 12 to attend the Greater Rumford Community Center Day Camp at Black Mountain.
The Agnes M. Lindsay Trust provided the grant and supports a number of health and welfare organizations, health projects, special needs, including the blind, deaf and learning disabled, the elderly, children’s hospitals children’s homes, youth organizations, youth/family services and summer enrichment programs.

Trust inventory
NORWAY – The Western Foothills Land Trust will conduct a bird inventory, rain or shine, from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9. The inventory will assist the trust in conservation planning for the 141-acre protected Witt Swamp parcel.
Volunteers should carry water, bring binoculars, wear protective clothing and be prepared to walk in the woods over uneven terrain. They should meet on Pleasant Street, across from Emerson Road, at 7 a.m. For more information, call Mary Van Nest, 743-8104.
Church sale
HARTFORD – The Hartford Community Church will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Goodwin’s Well Drilling, Route 4, North Turner.
Proceeds will benefit the church. Those who have donations should call 224-7355.
Tea party
HARTFORD – A Special Moments Fancy Tea Party will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Hartford Town Hall. Cost is $3 a person. Call 224-7355 for reservations.
There will be a tea party, silent auction, special reading, special music by Joleen Blue, singer/songwriter of Christian music, and a special “thank you for coming” gift.
Proceeds will benefit the church.
Daughters meet
STONEHAM – The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War held a memorial program at the Stoneham Church on May 20. A descendant of Hanna Richardson, for whom their Tent 19 is named, joined them for the service.
Members of Tent 19 met at AJ’s Store and Restaurant in Stoneham on May 23 for supper before meeting at the K of P Hall. Flowers were place on the altar in memory of departed members. The charter was draped for the most recent members who have died: Eleanor Nelson from Tent 19 and Mildred Caron and Goldie Place.
Memorial services were held at the grave of Lorin McKeen in Hillside Cemetery May 23. He was the great-grandfather of member Marilyn Jones.
On Saturday, June 30, Tent 19 will sell lemonade and cookies in front of LF Pike’s in Norway during the “Pop Goes the Fourth” celebration.
The next regular meeting will be on Wednesday, July 25, at the K of P Hall. Sept. 11 is the date for the Republican supper in Stoneham.
