BUCKFIELD – SAD 39 director Floyd “Chip” Richardson was appointed for another year Tuesday after he was wrongly informed that he had a year left on his term and didn’t need to get his name on the June 12 ballot.

Richardson’s term was up this year, but when he tried to get nomination papers for re-election he was mistakenly told he had another year left to serve. In fact, his term was up as he thought, but by the time officials discovered the mistake it was too late to get his name posted.

Selectmen consulted with the town attorney and the Maine Municipal Association and appointed him for a year.

Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the municipal building.

Running for a three-year term of selectman are Roger Bennett, Oscar Gammon and incumbent Christopher Hayward; for assessor for three years, Christopher Hayward and SAD 39 director for three years, Stacey Raymond.

In other business Tuesday, selectmen awarded the contract for a new firetruck to Greenwood Emergency Vehicles of North Attleboro, Mass., and Brunswick for $198,990.

Other bids were: Vermont Fire Technologies of Williamstown, Vt., $191,976.51; North American Equipment Fire Apparatus of Hooksett, N.H., $197,960; and New England Fire Equipment and Apparatus of North Haven, Conn., $246,574.

Greenwood’s offer was accepted because the specified truck had more features.

The Buckfield Village Corporation agreement will have the town office assuming the duties of treasurer for a one-year trial at no cost to the water district.

The Pine Tree Trail Riders and the Streaked Mountain ATV clubs agreed to continue maintenance of the railroad recreation trail as they have in the past. Both clubs had been looking for a land use permit.

Deirdre Newton was appointed to the Conservation, Parks and Beautification Committee.

Town elections will be held June 12 with polls open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
