Garage improvements
Issue: Councilors have been reviewing options for improving the public works garage ever since voters turned down a proposal to build a new $1 million-plus facility last year. Built in 1965, the 7,000-square-foot building has several problems such as air quality, handicapped accessibility and a lack of space.
Scoop: Architect Dan Mareno met with councilors to discuss less expensive options to bring the building up to code, however no decisions were made pending further study and public input.
Road improvements
Issue: Several contracts were awarded for road work
Scoop: Pike Industries will pave three miles of local roads on its low bid of $56.50 per ton for a total estimated cost of $225,000. Maringe Inc. of Pembroke, Mass., will do center striping of 30 miles of streets and white edge striping of 16 miles of roads on its low bid of $13,995.
Two resignations
Issue: Two longtime town employees, Economic Development Director Dan Feeney and the town manager Administrative Assistant Tammy Thatcher recently resigned to take other employment.
Scoop: Town Manager Curtis Lunt reported he has received 11 applications for Feeney’s position and 29 for Thatcher’s position.
Comprehensive plan
Issue: Work has been ongoing for more than a year to update the 1994 comprehensive plan.
Scoop: In a 7-0 vote, councilors accepted a new 144-page plan that will be forwarded to the State Planning Office for review. A special meeting on the plan will be held June 26. It is expected that a committee will be formed to guide the implementation of the plan.
Congratulations
Issue: Councilors wanted to commend two sports teams for their seasons.
Scoop: They signed a proclamation commending the Lisbon cross country team for winning the state championship and voted to send its congratulations to the Lewiston Maineiacs.
Appointments
Issue: A number of people have been named to serve the town.
Scoop: Appointed were: Planning Board member Jeff Ganong, Planning Board alternate Francis Drake, Board of Appeals member Charles Lausier, technology committee member Lance Seelbach, and Sealer of Weights and Measures Louis Levesque.
