OES to meet
MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Masonic Hall, 474 South Main St.
There will be reports on the highlights of the grand chapter session. Members will honor past matrons and past patrons and fathers. The meeting will be preceded by a 6:30 supper. All members of the order are invited to attend the last meeting before summer recess.
Seniors dinner
AUBURN – The New Auburn Senior Citizens will host a fried chicken dinner at noon Wednesday, June 20, at the St. Louis Church Hall basement. The cost is $4, and it is for members only. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, June 13.
Members met June 6 with President Virginia Levasseur presiding. June birthdays were noted, “Happy Birthday” was sung and small gifts were given. It was noted that Grace Provencher was observing her 95th birthday. Jean Doyon is offering many trips. For more information, call 784-5264.
Pot of gold winners were Romeo Lepage, Theresa Jenesco, Rolande Ayotte and Ernest Arsenault. New members are Marguerite St. Onge, Anita Dostie, Connie Turgeon, Jeannine Roux, Helene Sylvain, Karl Bartasheveh and Diane Gelina. Following the meeting a light lunch was served and bingo followed.
Photo showcase
LEWISTON – A Photojournalists’ Showcase, featuring a selection of the most evocative images produced by the photography staff at the Lewiston Sun Journal, projected on a large screen, will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. A question and answer session will follow. Flag Day disposal
LEWISTON – The L & A Veterans Council will hold a Flag Day disposal ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Veterans Park. The ceremony will take about an hour, and the public is invited. All L & A Veterans Council representatives will take part in the ceremony.
It is the first time the council does the event as an organization. It will show how to respect and dispose of the American Flag. For any information, contact Chairman Bert Dutil at 786-2305.
Grange outing
AUBURN – Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet for the annual spring outing at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Chickadee Restaurant in Lewiston. Those who have not made reservations and plan to attend should call Glenys Ryder at 783-6897. A business meeting will take place at the hall at 7 p.m. when election of officers will be held. This will be the last meeting until September. All members and guests are welcome.
School open
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society has announced that from June 14 through Aug. 30 the Old Schoolhouse will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays.
Members of the Poland Historical Society will be available to give tours and answers questions. There are some new displays this summer. The school is located on Route 26 next to the Poland Town Office and Poland Town Hall.
Mission barbecue
LEWISTON – Hope Haven Gospel Mission will provide a 4th of July celebration barbecue between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at 209 Lincoln St. All who are in need are welcome. The meal will be available to the shut-ins as well. Those who need delivery should call 783-6086.
Program on feet
LEWISTON – A free program on “Foot Health for Walking” will be sponsored by the Trekkers Club at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Auburn Mall, west end court.
Those attending will learn what they can do about problems such as foot and ankle arthritis, bunion and toe problems, diabetic foot conditions, numbness, burning and other common foot problems.
Recommendations will be shared for the proper footwear and athletic shoes or sneakers by Podiatrist Dr. Maurice Gardner.
Flag Day event
SABATTUS – Diane Whalen, a second-grade teacher at Sabattus Primary School and coordinator of a Flag Day program, said the children in kindergarten through fifth grade will take part in a formal flag ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Sabattus Central School.
Whalen said anyone who has flags that are worn and need to be retired should bring them to Sabattus Primary School, Sabattus Central School, the Sabattus Post of the American Legion or the Sabattus Town Hall. For more information, contact Whalen at 375-4525, ext. 262.
