Auburn photographers at CMMC
LEWISTON – The Central Maine Medical Center Rotating Art Gallery is sponsoring two Auburn photographers in June: James A. Walker and Tom Reichard.
Walker was born and raised in Granite City, Ill., a few miles from St. Louis.
Following 20 years of service, he retired from the Army in 1991. He earned his bachelor of science degree in business from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and had worked in the computer field for 36 years.
Walker has lived in Auburn for the past 17 years and has worked at L.L. Bean for the last five.
His interest in photography developed when he bought his first 35mm camera in Korea in 1966.
Since that time, Walker has lived and traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. Currently, his portfolio consists of travel photos and photos of nature, birds, seascapes and landscapes.
He also enjoys photojournalism and has had the chance to film President Bush’s twins, Barbara and Jenna, as well as former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush. Walker is a member of the Capital Area Camera Club and participates in his exhibitions, juried shows and other activities.
His photos are also being displayed at Gallery5 as part of the “Beyond the Palette” exhibit. His work can also be seen at his Web site: www.jimwalkerphotography.com.
Photography has been a big part Reichard’s life for as long as he can remember.
From his childhood fascination with his father developing his black and white images in his darkened kitchen, through his college and later adult years of more than average amount of family, friends and vacation photography.
Over the years he has worked with all formats: black and white, color print, slides and digital imagery.
Throughout all of his photographic activity, the basic premise that has always inspired him is the ability to see something so unique, even in the mundane, and capture that moment that will never happen in quite the same way again.
Reichard has been the director of human resources at Central Maine Healthcare for the past four years, but in his other life he has shared his work several times through the Woman’s Hospital Association’s gallery at CMMC, L/A Arts’ Art and Ale program at Gritty’s Pub in Auburn, presented at the Auburn Art Club, in brochures, yearbooks and Web sites.
Reichard and his wife have been residents of Auburn for three and a half years.
While he enjoys photographing life in the Lewiston/Auburn area, he is also drawn to the mid-coast region where the Reichards’ have a summer camp.
The Woman’s Hospital Association supports patients through fundraising projects throughout the year.
