LEWISTON – The 2007 edition of “Recreational Opportunities in Androscoggin County: A Resource Guide” is now available.

Healthy Androscoggin, L/A Trails, Androscoggin Land Trust and the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce provide the free resource to individuals, employers and other interested parties. Androscoggin County is full of rivers, ponds, lakes, parks, trails and open lands. There are lots of places where individuals and families can get out and get moving.

“It is wonderful to have these dynamic organizations join us in the commitment to encourage Androscoggin County residents to be active and healthy,” said Angela Westhoff, executive director of Healthy Androscoggin.

She said, “We knew the guide needed to be updated. L/A Trails and the Androscoggin Land Trust joined right in with expanding the guide and providing outstanding assistance with maps, descriptions and directions to the various trails and open spaces that are available to anyone to enjoy for free.”

“The role of the Androscoggin Land Trust involves much more than simply working to protected the unique natural landscape within our service region,” said Jonathan LaBonte, president of the Androscoggin Land Trust. “Our organization must leverage its resources and expertise to help gets residents and visitors in our region active in enjoying the recreational assets of this region.”

The guide features open spaces and trails, community organizations providing recreational opportunities as well as golf courses and gyms for each town in Androscoggin County. There are four regional maps of towns in the county identifying sites and trails. Physical activity and safety tips are also a part of the guide.

L/A Trails’ vision is to transform the quality of life in Lewiston-Auburn by developing the most comprehensive, accessible and well used trail system of any Maine community.
