RUMFORD – Heidi Waterhouse is one of seven recently announced winners in the Northeastern Loggers’ Association annual scholarship contest. Waterhouse is the daughter of Joseph and Kari Waterhouse and is enrolled in special education studies at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Entrants are family members or employees of association members and write a competitive essay on “What the Public Needs to Know About the Forest Products Industry.” Joseph Waterhouse is employed by New Page Corp. in Rumford.

Others receiving awards were Drew Blier, Fort Kent Mills; Jennifer Cranshaw, Sunderland, Mass.; Ashley Eames, Epsom, N.H.; Emily Frederick, Hardwick, Vt.; Elizabeth Howland, Conway, N.H.; and Mallory Wilson, Orrington.

The association is a regional trade group with approximately 2,000 members in the area of the U.S. bounded by Maine and Maryland on the east and Missouri and Minnesota on the west.

The association publishes a monthly trade magazine and books for loggers and sawmillers. It offers export assistance, produces workshops and seminars and is the operator of the Forest Industries Exhibit Hall in Old Forge, N.Y.
