NEW PORTLAND – Maine State Police stopped drivers on Route 27 near Louise Brochu’s business Thursday night, the state’s lead investigator Lt. Gary Wright said Friday.

Brochu’s body was found at her business, New England Wood Flooring, on the morning of June 8 by police after a customer had gone to her business and home on Route 27 and reported her missing. Police are calling her death a homicide.

Police have not identified a suspect and have been guarding the details surrounding her death while they continue to investigate.

Vehicles were stopped from 7 p.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. so police could talk with drivers. They also handed out fliers asking for help from the public.

The flier states police are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the vicinity of, or driving past New Portland Wood Flooring between the evening of June 7 and morning of June 8 or who observed any activity, including persons or vehicles, entering or leaving the business.

They would also like to talk with anyone who had done business at New Portland Wood Flooring in the last week and spoke with Louise Brochu or who had seen anyone else doing business or speaking with her. They are also asking residents who knew of anyone with whom Brochu may have had recent contact to call the Maine State Police at 1-800-452-4664.

A memorial service for Brochu will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Bell Chapel at Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley. The service will be closed to media.
