Recent Nielsen ratings for the Portland and Auburn markets put WGME, Channel 13, as the top-rated newscast in the prime-time 10 and 11 p.m. time slots.
WCSH, Channel 6, captured top ratings for the remaining news slots in the morning, mid-day and early evening.
WGME in February launched its 10 p.m. newscast, which airs on Fox WPFO, Channel 23. The Nielsen ratings show its overtaking WCSH’s established newscast ,which airs on WPXT, Channel 51, during that time slot. It’s the first time in more than a decade that Channel 13 has had a top-rated prime time news broadcast.
In 2006, WCSH was the top-rated newscast at 11 p.m., followed by WGME, with WMTW trailing. This year, WGME climbed eight points, taking that time slot. WCSH lost seven points and, although WMTW, Channel 8, climbed four points since last year, remains the third-ranked network news program at that hour.
