O’s for 10

Sam Perlozzo got the pink slip in Baltimore. Orioles managers since Earl Weaver left in 1986 — Cal Ripken Sr., Frank Robinson, Johnny Oates, Phil Regan, Davey Johnson, Ray Miller, Mike Hargrove, Lee Mazzilli, Perlozzo and now bullpen coach Dave Trembley. Six winning seasons overall. The O’s of old are missed.

Stephen Jackson is set to plead guilty to recklessness in a strip club fight and pay a $5,000 fine and do some community service. Explain something to me. How can all these athletes be out at strip clubs with their entourages and get into all these incidents and yet never overlap? Why hasn’t Pacman’s entourage shot at Stephen Jackson’s posse yet or vice versa?

We’re No. 4?

The Bruins have narrowed their search for a replacement for Dave Lewis to four candidates and hope to make a final decision by Friday. Why would a team desperate for buzz, any buzz, in Boston announce the firing and hiring of coaches on two different Fridays within a week? I think this ownership is happy to be No. 4. Not just content. Happy.

Less than two weeks after losing to Anaheim in the Stanley Cup final, the Ottawa Senators fired general manager John Muckler and promoted coach Bryan Murray to replace him. From 2002-04, Murray was the general manager of the Anaheim Ducks. With so many coaches getting fired, GMs getting fired, GMs getting hired in the NHL, somebody is going to coach against himself in one of these Stanley Cups.

This is an important distinction because usually when you’re cherry picked by the Yankees, you have to come over on a raft.
