PARIS – Accountant Ronald Snow, who is accused of taking more than $29,000 from Norway-Paris Community Television, pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft in Oxford County Superior Court on Monday.
The 58-year-old resident of Lake Road in Norway was indicted earlier this month and arraigned before Justice Thomas E. Delahanty II.
Snow, who served as a Norway selectman between 1993 and 1999, served as the station’s accountant from 2003 until 2006. Station Manager Steve Galvin said a total of $29,352.01 was discovered missing from NPC-TV’s account over a two-year period.
The station is funded by franchise fees paid to Norway and Paris by local cable provider Time Warner Cable.
Detective Gary Hill of the Norway Police Department said Galvin presented police with several checks written for cash, to Snow, Snow’s accounting business Three Sixty Management, and a redemption center owned by Snow.
Snow said the checks were a result of computer error that would sometimes print checks to or from the wrong account. He said he intended to pay back NPC-TV for such errors, but believed he owed the station only $1,650.
Chief Robert Federico of the Norway Police Department said Hill is continuing an investigation to see if other accounts managed by Snow had problems.
Galvin said the station filed a civil suit against Snow about a month ago to try to recover the missing money, but did not receive a reply. He said his attorney has not been able to find any assets belonging to Snow aside from partial ownership of two pieces of real estate.
Galvin said NPC-TV has not received any money from Snow or Three Sixty Management.
