Land trust to host Lisbon farm tour

LISBON – The Androscoggin Land Trust will host a tour of the Packard-Littlefield Farm from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23.

The farm has been a working farm since 1790, and it is known for its “no spray” sweet corn, sunflowers, pumpkins and hay.

It also supports a training garden that allows immigrant families to grow fresh produce, learn how to market goods and develop value-added products.

Purchased in 2004 through the Land for Maine’s Future Program from Bob and Ella Mae Packard, the conservation easement protects a 195-acre historic working family farm with fields, woods and streams as well as riparian frontage along the Sabattus River and No-Name Stream.

The farm remains privately owned and operated by the Packard-Littlefield family.

Four towns, Lisbon, Durham, Bowdoin and Sabattus, comprise the trust’s southern service area.

The Packard-Littlefield Farm, Durham River Park, Katherine M. Breton Memorial Preserve and Purinton Preserve and Historic Home Easement are all properties conserved in this region by the trust.

Visit www.androscogginlandtrust.org for more information about the trust’s work.

Those going should meet at Staples parking lot in Lewiston at 8:30 a.m. For more information, contact Michael Auger, director of land protection and stewardship, at 782-2302.
