CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Voters approved a $931,292 school spending plan Monday for the town’s 84 students along with formalizing contracts to pay tuition to send students to Carrabassett Valley Academy and renting airport hangar space.

Town Manager Dave Cota said all articles passed during a special town meeting Monday night, which lasted about 15 minutes.

Townspeople voted to approve a contract to pay tuition for high school students to attend Carrabassett Valley Academy. The town has sent students to the private ski and snowboarding school for many years with parents picking up the additional educational costs but there was no formal contract, Cota said previously.

The vote formalizes the agreement.

The town also pays for students in grades kindergarten through 12 to SAD 58.

Voters also agreed to formalize a contract to lease space for hangars at the Carrabassett Valley Airport and to appropriate up to $9,400 from the town’s undesignated surplus for improvements to the Information Center.

The upgrades include developing a virtual, interactive Web site for the Sugarloaf Area Chamber of Commerce, installing a new information center electronic kiosk and wireless Internet hub.
