A new industry is to be started at 32 Ash St.; and for the first time, a shingle bearing the names “Ross & Mann” will swing into the breeze of commercial industry. These gentlemen are both natives of Scotland, having been born and raised in Ross-shire, one of the far north counties. They have been in this country quite a number of years, settling at last at Rumford Falls, where they have been working for Colin Mann, a brother of Mr. Mann. M. Ross, who will have charge of the manufacturing end of the business. He is an expert in his line, and why should he not be? He served an apprenticeship in the old country for four years, working up step by step until he mastered all parts and arts of the baking business.

• The head of the Lewiston Public Works Department said last night that drastic water-conservation measures will have to be taken soon unless the Textile City’s rapidly dwindling water supply is replenished. He explained that the first step in a possible cutdown on water use will be the banning of the use of outside hoses by citizens.

• Four years of intensive training, regional planning and service mergers culminated Monday when United Ambulance Service in Lewiston activates its full-time paramedic crew.
United’s staff of 22 full-time and 12 part-time emergency medical technicians will now include 15 paramedics – the highest level of advanced life-support training an EMT can receive – making it only the third ambulance crew in the state and the first in the Lewiston-Auburn area with that level of personnel.
LONDON – Princess Diana, wife of Prince Charles, gave birth Monday night to a 7-pound son, who will be second in line to the British throne, Buckingham Palace announced.
