HEBRON – Hebron Academy Head of School John King has announced that Michael Munhall has been named assistant head of school and director of the Academy’s Upper School.

A native of Long Island, N.Y., Munhall is a 1971 graduate of Monmouth College in Illinois, and began his career at the Leelanau School in Glen Arbor, Mich., a boarding and day school, where he served variously as teacher, coach, athletic director, dean of students and of the faculty, and as head of school. He received his master’s degree in educational administration in 1982 from Michigan State University.

Referring to himself as a “student’s administrator,” Munhall has focused on understanding education from the perspective of those who receive it. “You only go through school once,” according to Munhall, “and there is a lot of reward in helping kids find themselves in the process.”

Munhall comes to Hebron after a five-year tenure as head of the South Shore Charter Public School in Norwell, Mass.

The father of two sons, Trevor, a teacher at the Derryfield School, and Matt, a college senior, Munhall is an avid photographer, sailor, bicyclist and swimmer.
