Board: Minot Selectmen

Met: Monday night

Verrill Homestead

Issue: Developers of Summit Drive, the road serving the Verrill Homestead subdivision, encountered ledge and asked selectmen to give them the option of raising 1,100 feet of road bed about 2 feet if estimates to blast the ledge proved too costly.

The scoop: Selectmen determined that town ordinance allows the change order if the road manager and the engineer hired to oversee road construction agree that the design modifications maintain the spirit and intent of the original design as approved by the Planning Board. As both did agree, selectmen authorized the change order.

Up next: Developers will evaluate the cost of the two options and proceed accordingly.

School consolidation

Issue: Selectmen were asked to choose a member to serve on a school administration reorganization planning committee that will assist the School Committee in creating a regional school unit pursuant to recently-approved school consolidation legislation.

The scoop: This planning committee will have nine members: three each from Minot, Mechanic Falls and Poland. Selectmen appointed board member Eda Tripp to serve as its representative on the committee.

AVCOG agreement

The scoop: Selectmen signed an agreement whereby the Androscoggin County Council of Governments will help the town bring its ordinances in line with its recently approved comprehensive plan.

AVCOG representation
