LEWISTON – A Vassalboro woman remained in serious condition Saturday night, following a Friday-morning crash on Main Street.
Lisa Williams, 33, was injured when the car she was a passenger in was hit from behind by a truck driven by Martha Graff of Chesterville. Rescue crews extricated Williams from her family’s crumpled Buick and took her to Central Maine Medical Center along with her son, Tyler, 8, who was being evaluated Friday night. At the request of his parents, no information on Tyler was released by the hospital.
Tyler’s brother, Ryan, 4, and his father, Henry, 37, who was driving the car, did not appear to have serious injuries, according to police reports.
Because of the seriousness of the accident, Graff, 60, was tested for intoxication. Police reports show there was no alcohol in her system. She told police that she hadn’t noticed the Williams’ car stopped to make a left turn until it was too late.
Neither she, nor her passenger, Joanne Shorley, 40, was injured in the 10:39 a.m. collision, police reported.
Bob Coulombe, who owns Down the Road Motors where the accident occurred, heard the collision and tried to open the rear doors of the Buick with a pry bar. But the damage was so extensive, it required the fire department’s extrication equipment to free the occupants.
