Dear Sun Spots: I have 300 euro to exchange. The banks in my area do not exchange them. Where can I exchange them? – Dan in Rumford.

Answer:
Sun Spots checked in with Quest Travel in Windham, after noticing a sign on their door stating they had foreign currencies. They can buy back your euro. There is a $16 charge to have your money overnighted and another two weeks for a check to be returned to the travel agency for you. They are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and are at 765 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, ME 04062. You may reach them at 800-947-2246, 892-2246.

Dear Sun Spots: I have a set of just-like-new World Book Encyclopedias. I would donate them to someone who could use them. Thank you! – Donna, Lewiston.

Answer:
In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots would encourage you to consider contacting the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club’s Literacy to Kids Projects in South East Asia. They may be still collecting for their program and have accepted used encyclopedia sets that are no longer of use in the past. The drop-off point is Filebusters, 95 Lisbon Road, Lisbon, next to Floor Systems. Please phone all parties involved prior to dropping anything off. You may reach Filebusters at 514-0265. Alternatively, call Ed Plourde at 782-0194 or Gary Kennedy at 582-3339.

Dear Sun Spots: As usual you are a great source of information.

I have found some coin pieces that are marked on the back with Shell’s Mr. President Coin Game with a different president name and picture on the front – Franklin Pierce 1853-1857; William McKinley 1897-1901; James Monroe 1817-1825; John Adams 1879-1901 and Theodore Roosevelt 1901-1909.

I am sure these are part of the game. Do you have any idea when this was put out by Shell?

Do you also have a list of people interested in purchasing leftover garage sale items?

I will be watching for your answer. Keep up the great service. – Avid Reader, No Town.

Answer:
According to a posting online at www.coinsite.com, your tokens were likely made in the 1950s, around the McCarthy era, by Shell Oil. The posting notes the tokens were given out with each visit to purchase gas at Shell stations. The writer believes they were minted in aluminum, and a board was provided with spaces to place each president’s token. You may also note several references to this game, online at eBay.

Regarding your second question, consider contacting:

St. Martins de Porres on Bartlett Street in Lewiston, 786-4690. Donations can typically be made Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. but Sun Spots would urge you to call first. They accept clean, gently used, good quality clothing. Distribution for those in need is Tuesday and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Clothing is free.

Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court St., Auburn, 784-6661. They take donations of good used clothes for babies, children teens, men and women for free. They are open Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Loaves and Fishes program at the Dominican Sisters’ grounds, 61 Lisbon Road, Sabattus. Arrangements to pick up leftover items may be made by calling 375-8399 and asking for Sr. Lucille Fournier.

Another option is the Salvation Army. You will need to contact them to make an appointment for pickup. They may be reached at 800-958-7825.
