DIXFIELD – The Ludden Memorial Library encourages all area children to keep their reading skills up during the summer months by joining the summer reading program. The Ludden library will take part in the Maine State Library’s collaborated reading program theme, Get a Clue @ Your Library.
The library will be decorated in this theme for the duration of the program, which will be from June 25 through July 31.
All programs run from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The schedule is:
Tuesday, June 26: Come and have some fun with Bitsy Ionta. The Master of Science Phenomena will “wow” young readers with his unusual phenomenal experiments.
Tuesday, July 3: The first ever stuffed animal show will be held. Children should bring their cutest, fluffiest, softest, favorite stuffed animal or toy to enter the contest. Judges will be present and awards will be given. Make your own “Puppy Chow Snack.”
Tuesday, July 10: The “Living in the Past” program will explore what kinds of toys and games children played with long ago. Young readers are invited to come and try out these games.
Tuesday, July 17: The Dixfield Police Department will present “Know Your Local Law Enforcement Officer” craft day. Children should bring a pre-washed, plain white or light-colored beach towel.
Tuesday, July 24: The Chewonki Natural History Programs will present “The Batmobile:” Bats of the World. The program will feature a live brown bat.
Tuesday, July 31: The closing program will feature Magician Dennis Labbe and his Magical Wonders. There will be cake, punch and reading awards after the show.
Participants are eligible to receive free snacks and T-shirts during the summer program. For more information, contact the library at 562-8838.
