HARRISON – The theme for this year’s Old Home Days is “Farming Through the Ages.”
Bourdon Scribner will serve as grand marshall in the grand parade to be held Saturday, July 14.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 10:30 a.m. Judging begins at 10:30 and the parade kicks off at noon at Depot Street.
The Food Booth at Crystal Lake Park opens at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 11, and the midway opens at 6 p.m. Advance ride tickets should be available from the Market Basket and Village Tie-Up in another week. In addition to the usual midway rides and attractions, there will be nightly entertainment on the Harrison Old Home Days stage. The Raffle Booth will be announcing winners hourly and a nightly 50/50 drawing will be held at 10:30 each evening.
As in the past, the fireworks display will go off shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Get there early and let Rick Albert and the Afterburners entertain you. They will be performing on the Crystal Lake Park stage beginning at 7 p.m. The Thursday night Run by the Lake is back, starting at 7 p.m. Register at the town office on Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The fee is $16. Register before July 6 and save $3. After the race, Karaoke returns to the stage at 8 p.m. with Scott Andrews and Company.
Friday night features the Junior Parade at 6 p.m. Registration is at the Calvary Community Church parking lot and begins at 5:30 p.m. The youngsters are encouraged to decorate their bikes, tricycles, carriages or wagons according to the theme, “Farming Through the Ages.” The winners will be invited to participate in Saturday’s Grand Parade. More country entertainment begins at 8 p.m.
The 11th Great Duck Race is scheduled for Saturday, July 14, at 5 p.m. Ducks are available for purchase at the Market Basket and Village Tie-Up. One thousand ducks are available at $5 a piece. The lucky winner shares the winnings with the Harrison Old Home Days organization. All money earned during this four-day event is returned to the town of Harrison.
A number of volunteer organizations will have booths at the park. The Lions Club will be cooking lobsters on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. the Calvary Community Church, across from the park, will be serving breakfast featuring scrambled eggs, homemade pancakes, sausages and homemade coffee breads. There are no tickets for sale, but donations are gratefully accepted.
To learn more about Harrison Old Home Days and its schedule of events for this year, pick up a brochure at any of the businesses in Harrison’s general area. The Raffle Booth is in need of numerous announcers or just people to approach local businesses in the area for prize donations. If you like to cook or just serve food, there is the Food Booth and volunteers are needed.
A meeting and cookout are scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, at 6 p.m. at the Anchorage in downtown Harrison for interested volunteers. Call 583-4420 and leave a message or call and just inquire about volunteering.
