LEWISTON – Kelin Sevit, a recent Lewiston High School graduate, is the recipient of the Alfred A. Plourde Memorial Scholarship, presented at the June 19 City Council meeting.

Each year, the scholarship is awarded to the college-bound Lewiston High School student who shows the most promise in a career in public service, and this year, Sevit was the City Council’s selection via an essay application. Sevit has served on the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council since 2003 and was praised by Councilor Norm Rousseau, who works closely with that group.

“Former Mayor Plourde is still remembered for his respect of other people, outstanding service as treasurer and mayor of Lewiston, and for getting things done,” Rousseau said. “This evening’s scholarship recipient possesses all those characteristics. Kelin is a young man of perseverance with a strong desire to succeed, and we are confident that he will continue to be a standout leader in whatever he does.”

Sevit will attend Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H., in the fall and will be studying aviation flight operations to become a commercial pilot.
