Farmington – Selectmen meeting Tuesday unanimously approved plans to hire a new police officer to fill a vacancy.

Police Sgt. Vernon Stevens, who has served on the force for more than 15 years, left voluntarily, creating the vacancy.

Town Manager Richard Davis says the job will be advertised and applications accepted soon.

The position is full time. Applicants should be state-qualified police officers.
