LEWISTON – A 35-year-old local man was arrested Tuesday and charged with raping and fondling a young girl in Lewiston.

Shawn Edward Latham of Lewiston was charged with gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual touching, visual sexual aggression against a child and unlawful sexual contact.

After receiving a complaint, officers arrested Latham. The alleged victim of the attack was taken to a hospital to be examined.

On Wednesday, Latham remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where bail was set at $20,000. Latham was also charged with violating bail conditions from a previous, unrelated charge.
