LEWISTON – Michael St. Pierre, 14, a student at Lewiston Middle School, completed his Eagle Scout project in June at Bradbury Mountain State Park.

St. Pierre decided to do his project at the state park after several other projects with Boy Scout Troop 116. After talking with the Park Ranger Bryan Kalleberg, St. Pierre settled on building a mountain bike bridge.

St. Pierre considered two bridges, each 35 feet long and 4 feet wide. After obtaining donations of wood, nails, safety glasses, gloves and food from local businesses, St. Pierre solicited volunteers from his own troop and Venture Patrol 116. The group spent the night at Bradbury Mountain while building the bike bridge.

The group, which worked nearly two days on the project, also removed old lumber from a previous bridge and cleaned the area of overgrown vegetation.

St. Pierre has been a Scout since age 5, starting with Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, then Boy Scouts. St. Pierre has an older brother, Jason, who also achieved Eagle Scout rank with the same troop. Jason St. Pierre helped with his younger brother’s bridge project.
