LEWISTON – Mary Margaret Timpany, 84, formerly of 27 Pine Drive (Spruce Drive), Gray, died Sunday, July 1, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, where she resided for the past six years.

She was born in Boston, Mass., on May 2, 1923, a daughter of John J. and Margaret Shorther Hynes.

She attended Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School in the Class of 1942.

She was married to Donald R. Timpany on Aug. 24, 1946. He passed in 1990.

She served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II as a surgical technician. She received an honorable discharge in 1946.

Later, she and her husband ran the Hebron Academy Store. After working for Pineland Hospital for 20 years, she retired in 1984.

She was a member of St. Gregory Church in Gray (Dry Mills), the Maine Crafting Guild, the American Legion Post in Gray, and the American Red Cross.

She enjoyed camping, doing crafts, and gardening. She had a passion for reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Donald M. Timpany and his fiancée, June Ducharme, of Sabattus; two granddaughters, Catherine Salk and her husband, Jay, of Auburn, and Jenn Timpany of Gray; a great-grandson, Ryan Salk; and her brothers, John, Joseph and Michael Hynes.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses and support staff from d’Youville Pavilion for the wonderful care given to Mary over the past years. The kindness and patience that they have provided is greatly appreciated.
