STANDISH – A 69-year-old Rhode Island man drowned Monday afternoon after jumping from a boat into Sebago Lake.

Charles Goy of Warwick, R.I., was with his daughter on the lake in two separate row boats about 1 p.m. when he told his daughter he was to jump into the water and swim to shore. Goy attached his boat to a mooring and jumped into the lake. He never resurfaced, according to investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.

Goy was believed to be under water for approximately 10 minutes before he was found. He was taken to the Maine Medical Center in Portland by the Standish Rescue Unit but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Goy family was staying at their seasonal home in Standish. Cumberland County sheriffs, the Maine Warden Service and the Standish Fire Department responded to the drowning, which happened in the Wards Cove area of Sebago Lake.
