LEWISTON – Gorham went unbeaten (5-0) in capturing the Maine ASA/USA Girls Fast Pitch 16-Under Class B State Championship, the tourney held last weekend in Lewiston.

Gorham knocked off Sumner 5-1; the Messalonskee Eagles 5-3, Bonny Eagle 8-2; Brewer 2-0; and Bangor 1-0 in claiming the crown.

Gorham and Bangor have qualified for the nationals.

Bangor worked its way through the losers’ bracket, winning two games on Sunday, 3-0 over Bonny Eagle, and 2-1 over Brewer, before losing to Gorham in the finals.

There were two area teams in the tournament. Sumner compiled a 2-2 record and the Mt. Blue Cougars went 1-2.
