RUMFORD – Communications Director James P. Miclon of the Oxford County Regional Communications Center announced on July 2 that repair to the communications tower located on Black Mountain have been completed.

Miclon said after a hard winter on Black Mountain and several years of wear on the antenna and communications cable, which is exposed to the elements, it was time to upgrade the cable and antenna.

“This was a project that I had planned on this year, but things were getting worse rather quickly in the northern part of the county as far as radio and toning signal, so I moved the scheduled upgrade to June instead of in the fall,” Miclon said.

“The Black Mountain tower is our communication link, which services all the emergency services such as fire, rescue and police for Byron, Roxbury, Dixfield, Mexico, Rumford and Andover,” Miclon said.

He stated, “The Byron Fire Department was having a very hard time receiving fire tones from our South Paris based center, but communications is greatly improved since the repairs were made.”
