LEWISTON – Karim Yacoub, MD, of the Center for Senior Medicine in Lewiston, recently earned his Certified Medical Director credential from the American Medical Directors Association.

Dr. Yacoub serves as medical director at the St. Margeurite d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, Maine’s second largest nursing and rehabilitation facility. He also is one of the state’s few practicing geriatricians, which is a medical specialty focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of problems in the elderly.

The Certified Medical Director program recognizes the dual clinical and managerial roles of a medical director. It requires indicators of competence in clinical medicine and medical management in long-term care.
