Dear Sun Spots: I am doing some research on the original Italian families in the Livermore Falls and Jay areas. I am looking for any kind of records that may exist from the former Sons of Italy club. The original meeting place was above Tag’s store in Livermore Falls and then moved to the building where the Hillside Sport’s Club now exists, off Marcello Street in Jay. Dear Sun Spots: Quite some time ago you gave the name and telephone number of a man who bought records and advised people to call. If there was no answer we were to leave a telephone number for a return call. I have over 200 records, solos, quartets, duets, all Christian music. I did call and left my telephone number but never heard back. I would appreciate if you would please give me the number again, if the gentleman is still buying records. Dear Sun Spots: My mother has a number of 33 1/3 records that we would like to sell. I am sure there have been requests previously, but I am a new viewer. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots believes you are referring to Bill Cartmel of Lewiston, a source she has used several times. You can reach him at 783-1378. Cartmel travels all over New England purchasing records, and typically purchases 33 rpm and 45 rpm records, and will even buy some 78s. It’s possible he’s been traveling. Keep trying.

Dear Sun Spots: You have helped me in the past and I hope you can help me now. My granddaughter is visiting from Indiana and she is looking for a pair of moccasins, but not made out of leather or suede. She wants to know if there is a source that sells them made out of manmade materials? Thank you for any assistance. – Jean Bosse, Auburn.

Answer: Unfortunately, Sun Spots did not locate any made out of this material. Hopefully there are readers out there who may be able to assist your granddaughter and yourself in your search.

Dear Sun Spots: Can you tell me if you know of anyone who picks up leftover garage sale items for a flat fee? We had a garage sale and are looking for someone interested in picking up the leftover items. If so, please call 783-8036. Thank you. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: You might consider the following places where you could donate your items:

St. Martins de Porres on Bartlett Street in Lewiston, 786-4690 no longer accepts clothing. They do accept household goods, bedding, sheets, towels, glassware, paintings, some furniture on a limited basis, dishes, electrical items and more. All items are in excellent working condition. Contact them to discuss what you have to donate. Donations can typically be made Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun Spots would urge you to call first. The Bargain Basket is open to the public during the above hours and the price is always right.

Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court St., Auburn, 784-6661. They take donations of good used clothes for babies, children, teens, men and women for free. They are open Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Loaves and Fishes program at the Dominican Sisters’ grounds, 61 Lisbon Road, Sabattus. Arrangements to pick up leftover items may be made by calling 375-8399 and asking for Sr. Lucille Fournier.

Another option is the Salvation Army. You will need to contact them to make an appointment for pickup. They may be reached at 800-958-7825.
