Auburn – Raymond L. Lemay, 87, of 550 College St., Lewiston, formerly of 83 Fairlawn Ave., passed away on Monday, July 23, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was born in Lewiston, May 1, 1920, the son of Wilfrid J. and Marie Anne Beauchesne Lemay. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939, and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was married Jan. 29, 1945, to Rejane Fontaine. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as clerk supervisor at the Ash Street post office.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish, club Richelieu International, American Legion Post 22, Association Canado-Americaine, American Postal Workers Association and the Maine Federal Credit Union League. He served many years at Holy Family Credit Union, now Maine Family Credit Union, serving as secretary and treasurer on the audit and loan committees.

He enjoyed woodworking and was a “Master Tinkerer,” who enjoyed helping others with their projects.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rejane of Lewiston; a daughter, Suzanne C. Bechard of Perry; three sons, Gerard “Gerry” Lemay and wife, Helen, of Lewiston, Robert “Bob” Lemay and wife, Cathy, of Lewiston, and Marc Lemay of Deltona, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, John Paul Lemay, Matthew Lemay, Candice Hammerton, Nick Cameron, Kim Johnson, Eric Bechard, Mary-Ann Urquhart, Eric Hutchinson, Jessica Pelletier, Jeremie Lemay and Nicole Lemay; 14 great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Steven, Alexandra, Ty, Olivia, Dakota, Spencer, Brandon, Joseph, William, Kyle, Brendon, Jacob and Natalee; a brother, Normand A. Lemay and wife, Jeanne d’Arc, of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Bertram Lemay.
