MONMOUTH – Mike Eaton fired a no-hitter, allowing one baserunner, to lead Monmouth to a 10-0 victory over Franklin County in the opening round of the American Legion Zone II baseball playoffs.
Eaton walked one and struck out five. Shortstop David Ricker helped preserve the no-hitter by reaching to snare a line drive in the third inning.
Monmouth (21-0) took charge with four runs in the second inning. Ricker, Tavis Hasenfus and Tom Edgecomb each drove in two runs. Justin Denbow had three hits, including a triple. Adam Gilbert was the losing pitcher for Franklin County (7-14).
Monmouth faces Augusta today at 5:30 p.m. in Winthrop.
