JAY – Linda Brundage was down on her hands and knees vacuuming every nook and cranny under her desk in her office Tuesday.
It wasn’t something the town’s financial director usually does, but since it was her last day on the job, she wanted to give her office area an extra-special cleaning.
Brundage, 59, of Livermore retired from town employment Tuesday after 26 years on the job.
Lisa Bryant of Jay, assistant financial director, is moving up to financial director and Jill Gingras, also a town office employee, is moving to Bryant’s position.
Brundage started in the town office then walked across the hall to work at the Police Department as a secretary/dispatcher for 17 years before returning to the town office in 2000 as deputy town clerk. She took on the financial director position in 2001.
Now she plans to have more time for herself and family, including four grandchildren.
“I’m going to relax and enjoy myself. I’m going to enjoy my family,” she said. “I’m going to spend more time with my grandchildren. Play some golf. Do some kayaking.”
Her husband, Robert Brundage, retired about three years ago from International Paper and the two plan to do things together – and alone – depending on what the adventure might be, she said.
There have been tons of changes over the years in the town office, she said.
There have been quite a few technological conversions, she said, that she and Bryant survived. Those included changing from a computer disk operating system to a Windows system, which was a trial at the time, but successful, she said.
“Basically for me, I was learning for most of these years,” Brundage said. “I really didn’t have an accounting background. I learned from the school of hard knocks.”
