WILTON – A space that will become a Wizard-of-Oz-themed garden will be dedicated to native Dorothy Tilton Merrow, who died in 2004, on Saturday, Aug. 4, during the 25th Wilton Blueberry Festival.
“Dorothy’s Garden” will be created in a small lot adjacent to a historic building owned by her daughter, Nancy Merrow. A special music and poetry celebration will begin at 1 p.m. in the soon-to-be garden, featuring young Wilton singers Rylee Doiron and Erik Mason, accompanied by Andrea Keirstead.
The event will also feature the premiere of the song, “Dorothy’s Garden,” written and performed by 14-year-old violinist Alexandra Mason, with special guest violinist Ellie Sloane-Barton joining her.
The afternoon will be filled with music and memories, as several members of the Tilton/Merrow families will share stories about Merrow. The afternoon will conclude with music by El Grande, a Portland-based ska/reggae band, at 3 p.m. There will also be free cake and lemonade and guests are invited to bring lawn chairs if they wish.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will sell and deliver lobster roll lunches on Friday, Aug. 3, as part of the blueberry festival. Orders can be placed at 645-2639 and picked up at the church on High Street. Lunch will include a lobster roll, chips, brownie and choice of soft drink.
The Wilton United Methodist Church will have a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.
On Saturday, Aug. 4, there will be a quilt show in the church sanctuary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Church members will serve meatball subs, chicken salad rolls, lobster seafood salad rolls, grilled hot dogs, water, soda and assorted blueberry desserts on the lawn during that time.
