POLAND – A man was seriously injured after his car collided with a van on Route 26 Tuesday morning, police said.
John Geyer, 29, of Paris was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with severe head injuries, Androscoggin County Sheriff Guy Desjardins said.
Geyer was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Passat south on Route 26 about 7:30 a.m. when his car collided with a northbound van driven by James Warren, 47, of Gorham, police said.
A witness said Geyer’s car was descending a hill when it crossed the center line into the oncoming lane and was hit broadside on the passenger side, according to police.
The force from the crash pushed Geyer into the back seat, Desjardins said.
Warren was treated at CMMC and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. She could not confirm whether Geyer was a patient.
Maine State Police are reconstructing the accident, Desjardins said.
For that reason, blood samples were taken from both drivers for alcohol testing.
“We’re pretty sure speed will be a factor,” Desjardins said.
