Healthcare Golf Classic nets more than $35,000

FARMINGTON – More than $35,000 was raised at the annual Healthcare Golf Classic held July 15 and 16 at the Sugarloaf Golf Club. This year’s festivities included 36 holes of tournament play, a Sunday night reception with comedian Gary Crocker, a Monday luncheon and awards ceremony, a silent auction and raffle.

The highlight was the participation of former Red Sox great Rico Petrocelli, who played a hole with each of the teams.

Proceeds from the tournament, coordinated by Franklin Community Health Network, benefit the Healthy Community Coalition and Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center. Both provide health services to people in need throughout the Franklin Memorial Hospital service area.

Steve Pierce, tournament chairman and member of the network foundation advisory board, attributed this year’s success to the support of the major tournament sponsors and the regional businesses and individuals who donated items for the silent auction and raffle.

“We are fortunate to have a large number of teams that we can count on to participate each year,” said Pierce. “This year was a special milestone for us. It was the 20th annual tournament for the Healthcare Golf Classic and it will benefit the new Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center, to be housed in the new medical office building currently being built on the Franklin Memorial Hospital campus. It has generated a great deal of excitement in the community.”

Forty-two teams from throughout New England took part in Monday’s tournament, the larger of the two. All had a chance to meet and play with Rico Petrocelli and to win a new 2007 Mercury Milan, as well as other prizes in the hole-in-one contest.

The winner of first place “gross” was Team Webber, comprised of Peter Webber Sr., Sean Keenan, Kelly Welch and Richard Marshall. Bouffard’s Furniture, made up of Jim Bouffard, Stew Durrell, Harry Clark and Jack Lambert, took second place. Third place went to Franklin Saving’s Bank’s team of Peter Judkins, Scott Morton, Gary Downs and Jamie Eastlack.

The first place “net” team was made up of Tom Delois, John Petrocelli and Dan and Karen Thompson representing PRM LLC. Second net went to the Ranor Team of Aaron St. Pierre, Mark Belanger, Brian Demshar and Ralph Palmer. PRM#2 took third, comprised of Kevin Fletcher, Bernie Chasin, Steve LeBlanc and Jason Agren.

“Closest to the Pin” contests were won by Jamie Eastlack, Lynn Morse and Barry Gill.
