BALDWIN – The Maine Tree Farm Committee will hold the 2007 Tree Farm Field Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Pierce Tree Farm. The farm is owned and operated by Josiah and Kathleen Pierce, 2007 Maine Tree Farmers of the Year and 2007 Northeast Regional Outstanding Tree Farmers. Their farm exemplifies long-term sustainable forest management practices.
Everyone interested in forest management is invited to tour the multi-use tree farm. Visitors will see exhibits from a variety of forest resource organizations and demonstrations of logging equipment, a portable sawmill, tree planting sites, pruning and properly installing a brook crossing. This is a free event for everyone, except for meals.
For information registration or lunch reservations, call Maine Tree Foundation at 621-9872 or e-mail [email protected]. Lunch, provided by the Maine State Grange, is $10 a person paid in advance or $12 on the day of the event. A pancake breakfast will also be served by the Southern Maine Maple Sugar Association at 8 a.m. at a price to be determined.
The Tree Farm Field Day will be held in conjunction with the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine’s Forestry Field Day and its Western Maine Field Day.
