AUBURN – A man accused of terrorizing his Samantha Lane neighbors last month, aiming an air rifle at a police officer and setting fire to his trailer, was indicted Wednesday by the Androscoggin County Grand Jury.
David W. Surette, 43, of 70 Samantha Lane, faces charges of arson, criminal threatening and terrorizing after a July 10 incident in Auburn’s Ja Lynne Mobile Home Park.
Surette is accused of threatening to shoot his neighbors or to beat them with a baseball bat. Police later saw Surette behind the windows of his home carrying a rifle, which he allegedly leveled at a Lewiston officer responding to the call. The rifle later turned out to be a pellet gun.
Police also said that Surette set fire to his trailer before or during the confrontation. He was subdued with a Taser and taken into custody.
He remained in Androscoggin County Jail Wednesday.
The grand jury handed up indictments against 51 other individuals Wednesday afternoon. Those included:
• Wayne D. Spence, 33, of Lewiston and Clinton S. Spence III, 30, of Auburn on charges of theft by unauthorized taking. The two are accused of a June 18 burglary at Wahlco Metroflex. The two allegedly attempted to steal more than $1,000 worth of steel, copper, aluminum and other metals from the Lewiston manufacturer.
• Raymond Chester Rolls, 66, of Lewiston, on charges of burglary and attempted gross sexual assault. Police say Rolls broke into a woman’s apartment on Aug. 3 brandishing a knife and attempted to force her to engage in a sexual act while exposing himself and groping her.
• Albert A. Letourneau, 32, of Lisbon Falls, on charge of aggravated marijuana cultivation. He was arrested on March 7 and accused of growing five marijuana plants.
