Maureen Swain of Bethel escaped injury Thursday afternoon when, she said, the brakes on her car failed, sending her off Fair Street in Norway, across a lawn, into a pole and then into Mainely Properties. “I didn’t have any brakes,” she said. Her car narrowly missed another driven by Lorraine Moore of Harrison. Karen Birney of Mainely Properties, said she was beyond the small waiting area when the car came through, but she heard the noise and tried to get out of the way. Norway police were unavailable to provide information.
