CUMBERLAND – Ryan Gay of Augusta, became the 71st Maine Junior Champion Thursday, defeating Will Delano of York, 6&5 in the finals held at Val Halla Golf and Recreation Center. Gay had defeated David Gushee of Gorham, 5&4 to advance to the finals.

In the 13-14 Division, Henry Fall of Topsham, beat Seth Sweet of Madison, 4&3 to earn the title. Sweet, 13, was the youngest player ever to compete in the Maine Amateur Championship last month.

Reese McFarlane of Cape Elizabeth, 10, defeated Red Desmith of Yarmouth in the 12-Under Division, 3&1.

In the Girls Division, Alexa Rancourt of South Portland gained a 6&5 victory over Portland’s Kate Merrill to capture the crown.

LEEDS – The Monmouth Playground Benefit Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, August 20 at Springbrook Golf Club. It’ll be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Entry fee for a foursome is $300, or $75 per golfer.

There will be an awards barbecue, prizes, silent auction and a 50-50 raffle.
