ST. LOUIS – Rick Ankiel homered twice and drove in three runs, the latest power display by the former pitcher, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Saturday.

Ankiel hit the first pitch he saw in the first and seventh innings to right field, giving him three home runs since he was called up from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. He also singled and scored in a three-run third to help the Cardinals win for the third time in four games.

After an embarrassing bout of wildness and an arm injury, the one-time phenom scrapped his pitching career during spring training in 2005. He capped his first game back in the majors – as an outfielder – with a three-run homer against San Diego on Thursday.

Braden Looper (10-9) outpitched Derek Lowe, giving up four hits in six innings to earn his third victory in four starts. The four hits were the fewest he’s allowed in a game since giving up four on July 2 against Arizona.

Brewers 7, Astros 4

HOUSTON – Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer and Prince Fielder followed with a solo shot, both off Astros closer Brad Lidge, as the Brewers rallied in the ninth.

Scott Linebrink (4-3) pitched the eighth inning for Milwaukee, which won its second straight over Houston. Francisco Cordero pitched the ninth for his 36th save in 42 chances.

Lidge (3-2) gave up four runs on four hits in blowing his fifth save in 12 opportunities.

Trailing 4-3, J.J. Hardy and Joe Dillon singled and Rickie Weeks reached on a fielder’s choice before Braun hit his two-out shot. Fielder followed with a drive to right, his NL-leading 36th of the year.

Wandy Rodriguez allowed one run and six hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking three. He is 6-2 with a 1.65 ERA at home and 1-8 with an 8.16 ERA on the road.

Jeff Suppan went 5 2-3 innings and allowed four runs and nine hits, walking three with seven strikeouts. He hasn’t won since June 22 against Kansas City.

Marlins 7, Mets 5

NEW YORK – Miguel Cabrera hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning and Josh Willingham had his first career grand slam for the Marlins.

Willingham went 3-for-5 and tied a career high with five RBIs for Florida, which has won three straight and five of seven.

David Wright homered twice for NL East-leading New York, which has lost three straight. It was Wright’s ninth career multihomer game and first since May 19 against the New York Yankees.

Florida loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth and Cabrera lined a 1-2 pitch from Aaron Heilman (7-4) into right-center. Cody Ross and Hanley Ramirez scored for a 7-5 lead.

Justin Miller (4-0) got the win despite allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, in the seventh. Taylor Tankersley pitched a scoreless eighth and Kevin Gregg got three outs for his 26th save and third in three nights.

Mets left-hander Tom Glavine allowed two runs in 6 1-3 innings in his first start since becoming the 23rd member of the 300-win club.

Diamondbacks 1, Nationals 0

PHOENIX – Brandon Webb pitched his second shutout in a row to extend his scoreless inning streak to a club record 33, leading the Diamondbacks to their 17th victory in 20 games.

Webb’s complete-game followed a three-hit, 3-0 complete-game victory at Los Angeles last Sunday. The right-hander also pitched consecutive shutouts last season May 20 against Atlanta and May 26 against Cincinnati.

Webb (12-8) hasn’t allowed a run since the sixth inning of a 6-2 loss to the Cubs in Chicago on July 20, five starts ago. The reigning NL Cy Young winner allowed five hits, struck out 10 and walked one in a game that lasted a mere 2 hours, 11 minutes.

Nineteen-year-old Justin Upton tripled off John Lannan (1-1), scoring Eric Byrnes in the fourth for the only run Webb needed.

Braves 7, Phillies 5

PHILADELPHIA – Kelly Johnson and Jeff Francoeur homered, and Atlanta’s bullpen pitched five effective innings to lead the Braves past their NL East rival.

Jimmy Rollins and Aaron Rowand homered for the Phillies, and Tadahito Iguchi added a two-run double.

Phillies starter Adam Eaton continues to be a huge disappointment in the first year of a $24.5 million, three-year contract. Eaton (9-8) failed to get out of the fourth – giving up a pair of homers, six runs and eight hits – while his NL-worst ERA swelled to 6.36.

When the Phillies seemed on the brink of bailing him out with a three-run fifth that chased Lance Cormier and pulled them to 6-4, left-hander Ron Mahay (1-0) came in and snuffed out the rally.

Oscar Villarreal pitched two scoreless innings. Rafael Soriano allowed Rowand’s homer in the eighth and Bob Wickman worked the ninth for his 19th save.

Rockies 15, Cubs 2

DENVER – Jamey Carroll hit a pinch-hit grand slam to break open a tie game in the sixth and Brad Hawpe and Troy Tulowitzki each drove in three runs to lead Colorado.

Carroll, who’s only other home run this season also came against the Cubs, hit a 1-2 pitch from Rich Hill just over the left field wall for his ninth career homer, first grand slam and the sixth grand slam of the season for Colorado, a team record. Carroll finished with a career-high five RBIs.

Hill (6-7) gave up seven earned runs in 5 2-3 innings, tying his career high in runs allowed.

The Rockies scored four more runs in the seventh on Hawpe’s two-run homer – his 21st of the season – and Tulowitzki’s two-run single. Tulowitzki went 4-for-5, Kaz Matsui was 3-for-6 and Yorvit Torrealba scored three runs.

Reds 8, Padres 3

CINCINNATI – Bobby Livingston pitched brilliantly into the ninth inning and Jeff Keppinger backed him with three RBIs to help the Reds.

Livingston (3-2), who was 0-2 in his previous four starts, allowed four hits – including two homers by Brian Giles – with no walks and two strikeouts in 8 1-3 innings.

Giles’ second homer, a two-run shot, and third in his last two games chased Livingston. It was Giles’ 17th multihomer game and first since connecting twice on Sept. 12, 2004, at Colorado.

Bill Bray got the final two outs in his first appearance for the Reds this season.

Keppinger snapped a 1-all tie with a bases-loaded, two-run single in the seventh off Justin Hampson (2-3). He reloaded the bases by walking Javier Valentin, and Alex Gonzalez greeted reliever Mike Thompson with a two-run double.

Pirates 13, Giants 3

SAN FRANCISCO – Freddy Sanchez homered and drove in a career-high five runs, and Adam LaRoche connected for the second consecutive game to lead the Pirates.

Sanchez snapped a scoreless tie with his two-run homer into the left-field seats in the fourth for the first of his four hits. He added a two-run double in the ninth.

LaRoche followed Sanchez’s homer with a splash-hit solo shot into McCovey Cove.

Randy Winn homered for the Giants, his seventh, on a day when Barry Bonds rested. But San Francisco could do little else against Tony Armas (2-3), who beat the Giants for the first time since 2002 with the Expos.

The Pirates put together a big inning for the second straight day, finally getting to hard-throwing Giants rookie Tim Lincecum (6-3). The right-hander and the team’s top 2006 draft pick struck out eight and walked one in six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs.
