LEWISTON – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning when his vehicle collided with a truck on Lisbon Street.

Police say Brian Lemay, 33, of Sabattus, was riding his motorcycle inbound on Lisbon Street just before 11 a.m. Raymond Stone, 70, also of Sabattus, was driving his GMC truck outbound. As Stone turned left onto Cassell Street, near McDonald’s, they crashed.

“I heard a thud and looked in my rearview mirror and saw the motorcycle driver go vertical. He went up and landed on his motorcycle,” said Keith Miner, who was driving in front of Stone and turned onto Cassell Street just before the crash.

Miner, who was in the area on vacation, pulled over and ran to the scene. At the same time, Richard Burton, who was heading home from his job as a wildlife specialist, came upon the crash, called 911 and rushed to help Miner. The two men moved Lemay off his bike and started CPR.

“It seemed like forever,” Miner said. “It was probably only five or 10 minutes.”

Although Lemay appeared to breathe erratically at points, the men never got a pulse.

Lemay was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Stone was not hurt.

Lewiston police shut down part of Lisbon Street for several hours Tuesday as they cleaned up the scene and investigated the crash.

Police tested Stone for alcohol, a standard procedure for drivers in a fatal crash. They declined to release specific results, but said there was no indication Stone was drinking. He has not been charged in the accident.

Police said they would look into whether Lemay’s speed was a factor. The speed limit is 30 mph on that stretch of road.

Police expected to finish their investigation by this afternoon.
