RUMFORD – Voices of the Valley, a vocal competition open to River Valley area residents, will take place Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Mountain Valley High School. Proceeds will benefit Tammy MacDonald of Mexico, who is undergoing treatment for colon cancer.
A nonrefundable donation of $10 will be accepted from each contestant.
There will be three categories: age 12, ages 13 to 18, and ages 19 and older. Prizes of $100 and $50 will be awarded to the top two winners of each category. These winners will then compete for a $200 cash prize and the Voice of the Valley trophy.
Auditions will begin at 9 a.m. The top six contestants in each category will continue on to the 6 p.m. show.
Contestants will need to prepare two different songs, one for the audition and another for the show.
Music will be provided by DT’s Entertainment.
Master of ceremonies will be Duane Glover. Judges will be Judith Kuhn, Thea Dunn, Connie Porter, Tammy Schmersal-Burgess and Hugh Rowley.
Entry forms and rules may be picked up at Davis Florist on Congress Street, Erik Designs on Route 108 in Rumford, Tah Dah Hair Salon in Mexico, Glover’s Service Station, and Franklin Savings Bank in Rumford and in Mexico.
Entry forms need to be returned to Cheryl Dickson at Erik Designs no later than Friday, Aug. 17.
Admission will be a donation of $5 in advance or $6 the day of the event. This will allow admittance to both the audition and the evening show. Tickets may be purchased at Franklin Savings Bank, Rumford and Mexico, Davis Florist, Erik Designs and the Canton Town Office.
Concessions will be available during the show. A barbecue from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the high school will include hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, corn-on-the cob and a drink. Cost: $5. Strawberry shortcake, $2.
A 50/50 raffle is taking place now and will be drawn at the event. Raffle tickets may be purchased at locations listed above.
