PARIS – Police officers and firefighters from around the Oxford Hills will gather Saturday to play softball and to raise money for the Rape Education and Crisis Hotline.

The game, which will feature players from Norway, Oxford, Paris, Otisfield, Hebron, Waterford, West Paris, Harrison, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police, starts at 5 p.m. at Gouin Athletic Complex on Alpine Street in Paris.

The law officers will line up as the “Posse” and the firefighters will be the “Red Army,” according to a news release issued by REACH.

The team names reflect a “friendly rivalry,” the release stated.

The cost to attend will be $3 for adults. Children under 12 are free. The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and refreshments. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Norway, Oxford and Paris police and fire departments and at the REACH office, at 1 East Main St. Tickets will also be available at the game. In the event of rain the game will be played Aug. 25.

“The partnership between REACH and law enforcement is a natural one, as the organizations work cooperatively on some reports of sexual assault, including cases involving the sexual abuse of children,” according to the release issued by REACH.

The money raised from the game will be used to expand REACH’s Awareness and Risk Prevention Programs into elementary schools. These programs have been presented in middle and high schools since the 1980s to the six school districts throughout Oxford County.
