LEWISTON – The Franco-American Heritage Center is preparing for La Soiree Canadienne with music, food and fun planned beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24. A traditional Franco-American meal will offer meat pie (tourtierre), or salmon pie, potatoes, vegetables, dessert and beverage. Music will be provided by the Leblanc Family and Nel Meservier with special guests.

Fiddler Don Leblanc, his wife, Linda, and their children are carrying on a musical tradition that began with Don’s grandfather and father playing at barn dances in the 1930s. As his own family grew, Don taught Linda and each of the children how to play an instrument. Linda taught them to sing in French.

Jim plays guitar and bass; Jay plays guitar; and Jackie plays bass. Kevin, who is in the Air Force and has been stationed in Alaska for the past three years, will be home for the performance. He’ll play the harmonica. After the soiree, he will travel to Germany.

The Leblanc family’s repertoire includes a lively variety of traditional reels, French folklore and country music.

Accompanying the family will be Nel Meservier on keyboard and Jerry Meservier on drums. Other special guests will include Madeleine Leblanc, Doris Surette and Diane Meservier.

Admission is $10, $8 for seniors and students. For tickets, contact the box office at 689-2000. Information is also available online at francoamericanheritage.org.
