NORWAY – A Fryeburg couple was seriously injured Saturday evening when the motorcycle they were riding veered off the roadway and collided head on with a tree.
James Steadman, 54, and Lisa Steadman, 47, of Stuart Road, were riding on their Honda motorcycle at 6:36 p.m. when the crash occurred on Thomas Hill Road, police officer Holli Pullen said.
Lisa Steadman was a passenger on the motorcycle, while James Steadman was the operator. Neither wore a helmet.
Lisa Steadman was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, where Pullen said she was in stable condition Saturday night. The hospital would not release an update on her condition Sunday evening.
James Steadman was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Life Flight, where he was in serious condition Saturday night, according to Pullen.
It was unclear Sunday night if alcohol or speed were involved. The accident is under investigation by the Norway Police Department.
“I can’t say what factors may have contributed to the accident,” Pullen said.
