LIVERMORE FALLS – No one was injured Thursday when a large commercial tractor came free of its security straps and fell off the trailer that was hauling it.

The tractor landed on its side in the middle of Route 4, temporarily closing both travel lanes.

The trucker, Frederick Best, 59, of Minnesota was heading north on Route 4 to Farmington and went to take a left to follow the road near Cumberland Farms when the tractor wiggled free of its straps, police officer Joe Sage said Monday.

Best was hauling the John Deere tractor for Frederick Fleet Co. of Illinois, Sage said.

A tow truck from Western Auto was able to pull the tractor out of the road where it remained until heavier equipment arrived to lift it back onto the trailer.

“Thank God nobody was in the other lane. He was taking up both sides of the road” when he turned, Sage said.
