EUSTIS – A Connecticut man pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of criminal trespass after police investigated a report of someone staying in a camper that didn’t belong to him.

Jeffrey Lagasse, 33, of Andover, Conn., told police Wednesday that he was walking from Canada to Caribou doing family research and ran out of money, became stranded and that’s why he spent the night in someone else’s camper dining on pizza he cooked in the microwave, police said.

Lagasse told police that he intended to repay everyone when he received his Social Security check in two weeks, Franklin County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Raymond Meldrum said.

Deputy Christopher Chase, assisted by Maine State Police Trooper Scott Stevens, investigated the matter.

A Eustis selectman notified state police about an ongoing problem of a transient in the area walking onto people’s porches and other places last week, Meldrum said.

Lagasse also left his license with a store that loaned him $50, saying he would repay them when his check came in, he said.

While investigating the camper report, someone else came to police and told them there was a man at another camper.

Lagasse was arrested on two charges of criminal trespass, Meldrum said.

Lagasse appeared before a judge in 12th District Court in Farmington on Thursday and was fined $50 for each charge, according to court records.
